Return to Fantasy remains one of Uriah Heep's best selling works. The singles were "Return to Fantasy" and "Prima Donna"...

Second album from this German space rock band gets its first release on CD and given the deluxe treatment courtesy of Sireena Records. While it doesn't hit the heights of The World Will End On Friday its still quite a good album. Definite nods to Nektar, Yes, and most definitely Grobschnitt through out with keyboards quite prominent and tasty guitar leads the order of the day. Comes with two live bonus tracks recorded at a recent band reunion.

Phil Manzanera had no problem filling his mid-'70s downtime away from Roxy Music. His guitar graced some 20 albums, like John Cale's Fear, Eno's Here Come the Warm Jets, and Nico's The End. This outing from his all-star side group is slicker than his 1976 live debut album, but no less worthwhile; some 16 musicians are credited. The sound is sleek and sophisticated; even lyrics aren't exempt from creative twists, as shown on "Listen Now"'s glistening jazz-pop -- which cleverly juxtaposes its title against a bouncy "now, now, listen" chorus.

Recorded at the final gig of the band's 2002 sell out UK tour, this two hour concert captures the very essence of the Ozrics live experience with a frenzied capacity crowd at London's Shepards Bush Empire. The DVD includes classics from Ozric Tentacles' vast back catalogue as well as previously unreleased material and the odd 'space-jam' where the band free themselves from the shackles of rehearsed material and let the music wander into unknown territory.

Victor BRADY hails from St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands. He moved to mainland USA sometime in the 60's, and established himself as a popular and influential performer of the steel drum, performing in Central Park on a regular basis. Brady himself doesn't quite like the notion of coining his instrument of choice a steel drum - for him that is a cruder instrument consisting of a large 55 gallon steel barrel. Brady prefers to call the more refined instrument he plays a steel piano.

A reissue of an album originally released in Japan in 1994 under the title Voice Mail, 1995's Battle Lines continues John Wetton's career path over the preceding 15 years -- there's more pop than prog in his prog pop, in other words. Basically indistinguishable from a late-period Asia album, the ten tracks on Battle Lines were mostly co-written by Wetton and keyboardist Bob Marlette. The re-release garnered a new cover and bonus track - acoustic version of the title track.

An interesting jazz-rock outfit that used mandolin as their main instrument, instead of guitar. The group was launched in 1974 by Robbie van Leeuwen (vocals, mandoline; ex-Shocking Blue) and existed for two years. Other featured members: Rudy Bennett (vocals, ex-Jupiter), Dick Remelink (sax & flute; ex-Ekseption, in 1976 to Trace), Hugo van Haastert (mandoline; left the group temporarily in 1975 to work with his own band, Triad, but returned soon thereafter; his replacement was Hans van Vos, ex-Lemming), Peter Wassenaar (bass, ex-Blue Planet) & Peter Rijnvis (drums).

Songs, Poems and a Lady is a notable proof, which is eligible to be one of the most eminent debuts of this latest season. It is an album which is a sort of auditory analepsis, embellished with the strength of young intentions and a strong know how. It is a pleasure for the ears and so I can suggest to every prog rock and symphonic rock fan to listen to this album and enjoy the music of this Italian band.

Nowadays, the best expressions and attitudes of progressive rock are able to form eclectic mixtures, yet they mostly embrace independent striking values, being either classy, new-waved, drenched, alternative, powerful or sensible, underground or mainstreamed, artistically rooted or experimentally diluted. Up this kind of a scale, Zip Tang, a four-piece band from Chicago, prefers to play something from the classic influences, the nice modern art and the bit of indispensable jam and "new music" - in a manner that, currently, gets optimistic praises, plus in a musical attractive empathy that can score, further on, more and more important progressive qualities...

When SATIN WHALE recorded their second output they have found more to an own discrete style on the one hand but unfortunately they've lost some the power from their debut as well. Thus with good reasons after that one and their Live record "Whalecome" they vanished in the haze more or less. The album starts a bit tame with the first three tracks but with the 11 minute + long "Go Ahead" comes certainly the best and most versatile track on here with great sax and flute play. "Trace Of Sadness" is a powerful organ driven rocker, "Song for Thesy" is very much dominated by flute, reminding a bit to FOCUS and has some nice drum and marimba sections between the vocal parts.

Heavily influenced by San Francisco bands (Big Brother and the Trucking Company and The Jefferson Airplane quickly come to mind), the Santa Rosa, California-based A Euphonious Wail was roughly five years behind creative and popular tastes. Not that it seemed to matter given a financially struggling Kapp Records went ahead and signed the quintet to a recording contract. Built around the talents of drummer Doug Hoffman, keyboardist Bart Libby, singer Suzanne Rey, singer/guitarist Steve Tracy and bassist Gary Violetti, the band's self-titled 1973 debut teamed them with producer Brian Ingoldsby (Lowell Levinger of Youngbloods fame reportedly also helped out). While "A Euphonious Wail" had a couple of nice moments, for the most part the LP was surprisingly lame and uninspired. As lead vocalists Rey and Tracy had decent, if unexceptional voices (though Rey tended to screech in the higher registers).

Diamond Head is the first solo album by Phil Manzanera, issued in 1975. It was originally issued in the UK on Island (who was handling all E.G. recordings) and in US on Atco. The sound quality on the US album left a lot to be desired, so the UK import was a popular seller in the speciality record shops who sold Roxy Music and other UK bands.

War is Roger Waters' great muse, the impetus for so much of his work, including the semi-autobiographical 1979 opus The Wall. The Final Cut, his last album with Pink Floyd, functioned as an explicit sequel to The Wall, but 1992's Amused to Death acts as something of a coda, a work where Waters revisits his obsessions -- both musical and lyrical -- and ties them together with the masterful touch of a mature artist...
