Cathedral is usually mentioned with other 70s American prog bands like Yezda Urfa and Mirthrandir. Those three bands played symphonic-prog influenced mostly by Yes and early Genesis (although Yezda Urfa showed a strong Gentle Giant influence). And it had a profound influence on Cathedral. The listener will instantly notice that Cathedral were quite aggressive for a mid-seventies prog band, and the band wastes little time exploring action-packed sections in each track. The bass/drum interplay was one of the first things to catch attention...

This album has 71 minutes of adventurous and diverse progressive music. It's mostly instrumental. There are vocals on parts of all the tracks, especially songs 2 and 3, which some people seem to be ok with but others seem not to like. Instrumentally though, it's really good- a lot of changes and complex arrangements, and a fairly wide range of keyboard and guitar sounds. The production definitely isn't slick, but it's intentionally somewhat raw.

"Illusions On A Double Dimple" is an album by the German progrock group Triumvirat. It was a breakthrough for the band, that started to open shows in a U.S tour for Fleetwood Mac playing it entirely, and made the band more popular in some countries. This popularity would be increased on their next release, Spartacus.

Barclay James Harvest was, for many years, one of the most hard luck outfits in progressive rock. A quartet of solid rock musicians John Lees, guitar, vocals; Les Holroyd, bass, vocals; Stuart "Wooly" Wolstenholme, keyboards, vocals; and Mel Pritchard, drums with a knack for writing hook-laden songs built on pretty melodies, they harmonized like the Beatles and wrote extended songs with more of a beat than the Moody Blues.

Mirthrandir was an obscure progressive band from New Jersey formed in 1973 during the heyday of Yes. This band played a complex and elaborated music based on breaks, contrasts and refinement. There are plenty of vintage Moog's and Hammond organs. The flute is also an interesting addition to the sound. The group subtly mixed influences of Gentle Giant, King Crimson, UK, Yes and Emerson, Lake & Palmer. "For You The Old Women" is an album of progressive rock with flute, keyboards, long tracks and lots of rhythm changes. Led by keyboards and guitar, the compositions are all very much in the traditional "prog" style, with alternating moods, shifting time changes...

In 1973, fed up with Bryan Ferry's domineering in Roxy Music, Eno leapt into a solo career that would find him championing the "art" in "artifice." This record is a who's who of the then-burgeoning English art-rock scene, featuring Robert Wyatt, Robert Fripp, and every member of Roxy Music except its leader (thus answering the musical question, "What if Eno had helmed the third Roxy record instead of Ferry?"). Warm Jets sports a lightheartedness that was a refreshing antidote to the pomposity of Yes and ELP on the dark side of art-rock's spectrum, with nonsensical, sound-based couplets such as "Oh headless chicken / How can those teeth stand so much kicking?" This debut is a milestone not just for Eno, but for all rocking music. Listen to Fripp's furious guitars on "Baby's On Fire" and "Blank Frank." It's incredible, Velvet Underground-inspired rock in a scene that had forgotten what rocking meant.

It's no secret that one of the most powerful weapons in Zappa's arsenal was his sense of humor, which was at its height in live performance. Consequently, there's no better way to get a feel for the full scope of Zappa's music than on the live ROXY & ELSEWHERE. This set finds Frank at his mid-'70s peak, working with Ruth Underwood, Don Preston, George Duke, etc. While all the tunes are technically impeccable (often featuring trademark feats of counter-intuitive derring-do), it's Zappa's humorous interaction with the band and the audience that puts the real spark into this recording.

Of all the great pomp bands, perhaps none can rival Aviary. Although misleading to the casual observer, the descriptions that must surely follow this exceptional band's music are a delight to the connoisseur of pomp rock. Grandiose, pompous and bombastic, the unique songwriting talent of Brad Love and the musical skills he and his four fellow band members bring is a truly special sound so needed in today's music scene...

From the early nineties Sweden delivered a lot of fine mellotron-drenched progrock bands like Anekdoten, Landberk, Atlas, Catweazle and Par Lindh Project. But the the first known band in that period was Anglagard with their splendid debut-album Hybris. The music of 'Hybris" is complex, sharp, almost edgy and with dark overtones - it sometimes sounds downright strange. At other times, you'll come across poignant passages that will make you ache with longing. The overall effect is simply mesmerizing: like a musical Disneyworld, the soundscapes change at dizzying speed and take you where no music lover has ever gone before.

"Paint A Picture" was the debut album release by England's FANTASY and represents a lovely early work of art. This 5 piece English band play a highly symphonic styled melodic progressive rock with some lovely deep mellotron and keyboards. FANTASYy were known as a song based band and this album showcases their lyrical approach to symphonic music. Instrumentally these guys were amazing with some lovely bass, guitar and drum interplay all put to the expressive and flowing vocals. Their sound is full and rich with lots of great instrumentation.

Klotet is another Progressive rock band coming from Sweden. The musicians play a personal brand of instrumental Progressive rock, through fourteen concise tracks, full of a very special flavour. Based on the organ and Fender Rhodes sounds, the atmospheres recall the early Seventies, especially (According to the band itself) the swedish bands of those times, and musicians like Bo Hansson. It's a very dynamic and lively music, sometimes even frantic, with melodies typical of the Scandinavian School we all appreciate in Progressive rock. Included are some unquiet harmonies ala King Crimson or Anekdoten. Klotet's music is enhanced by a roaming bass, and played with a constant enthusiasm.
