A stunning self-reinvention by a band that many had given up for dead, 90125 is the album that introduced a whole new generation of listeners to Yes. Begun as Cinema, a new band by Chris Squire and Alan White, the project grew to include the slick production of Trevor Horn, the new blood (and distinctly '80s guitar sound) of Trevor Rabin, and eventually the trademark vocals of returning founder Jon Anderson...

Next to Embryo, Kraan are among those German groups who include psychedelic, sometimes ethnic elements to their distinctive, innovative jazz rock. At the beginning of their career, started in 1970, Kraan free form jazz rock was really into jam sessions, totally improvised, mainly instrumental (featuring sax sections and many guitar / bass solos). Their self title album was experimented with ethnic, psychedelic/acid tastes and discreet electronic manipulations. Since their debut album and with their two following "Wintrup", "Andy Nogger" the band has demonstrated with interest, dynamism and humour how can we make fusion/jazz with addition of influences from everywhere...

The story of this obscure Dutch band starts when Prog Rock was in the peak of the creativity back in 1973 in the traditional town of Deventer in the Netherlands from where all the members are, the name was chosen in reference to the famous album of the Welsh band Gnidrolog, but it was not the original, during their first gig in a Deventour venue called "The Bottle" as a Progressive Blues Oriented band (In the vein of pre "Benefit" Jethro Tull), they were known as Session and in the middle of it they decided to change their name to Lady Lake...

The magical and mystical sounds of prog rock. There was a time when prog rock meant 30-minute long suites that seemed perfectly suited for ballet dance accompaniment. But for a spell in the '80s, prog had become streamlined, with a focus placed back on the importance of songwriting, rather than flatulent soloing. One such band that had no problem showing that they have impressive chops -- but that the importance of songwriting remained numero uno -- was (and remains) Pendragon.

In many Yes fans' eyes, the group will never issue a live album better than their 1973 classic, Yessongs. But the group has issued quite a few subsequent live sets, and as evidenced by 2007's Live at Montreux 2003, Yes remain one of prog rock's top live bands. Live at Montreux features arguably their definitive lineup (Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Rick Wakeman, and Alan White) and a few newer tracks are included, but Yes are no fools -- they know that longtime fans expect to hear the classics...

The cosmos were certainly aligned on this trio-centric evening. What was originally scheduled as a night with King Crimson at the Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria, VA -- on the third day of the third month of the third year of the new millennium -- turned into the trifecta of ProjeKct Three. The (literally) eleventh hour change in format, as well as the conspicuous absence of Adrian Belew (guitar/vocals), were due to the artist's (obviously) unexpected illness. Rather than call the whole show off, the decision was made that Robert Fripp (guitar), Trey Gunn (touch guitar/talker), and Pat Mastelotto (electronic percussion) would re-form the King Crimson offshoot fraKctal ProjeKct Three for one very special occasion. These ProjeKcts were implemented after the 1997 dissolution of King Crimson's double-trio reincarnation.

The history of US band TIME HORIZON can be traced back to another entity called Iron Clay Potes. At some point Ralph Otteson and Dave Dickerson from this band approached Bruce Gaetke and wondered if he could mix some of their material. And while nothing substantial came out of the process, Iron Clay Poets eventually disbanding, Otteson and Gaetke developed a friendship on a personal and musical level in the process.2004 saw the two of them form a band, supplemented by Dickerson and Steve Gourley. Following many years of honing their craft, the quartet got the opportunity to record and release their debut album Living Water on their own label Angelic Noice Records in 2011. Since then Dickerson and Gourley have decided to leave the band. Allen White (bass) and Dave Miller (guitars, keyboards) are the current additional full members.

Spettri began in the mid 1960s as another band of the Italian beat and went through several line-up changes before arriving at their new and heavy sound around 1970. The band members were strongly influenced by heavy period bands like Sabbath, Purple, and Colisseum. They composed this album and it became the staple of their live show. It was recorded in 1972 but never released until Black Widow reissued it this year. It's a concept album with four long parts about a man dealing with spiritual problems and his search for answers. Unlike many RPI bands all around Spettri at the time they were not pursuing much of the Italian song tradition, serious avant-garde or classical music influences.

Playing a melodious synthesis of symphonic hard rock that has occasionally been compared to Pink Floyd, Hanover Krautrockers Jane can trace their origins back to the late sixties psychedelic band Justice Of Peace. Releasing a single Save Me/War, the band featured future Jane members Peter Panka on vocals, Klaus Hess on bass and Werner Nadolny on saxophone. By late 1970 Justice Of Peace had dissolved and regrouped as Jane with Panka on vocals and drums, Hess switching to guitar and Nadolny assuming keyboards. Charly Maucher joined on bass and power vocalist Berndt Pulst completed the band in April 1971 and their first LP "Together" was released in the spring of 1972...

US only limited numbered edition. Pressed on 24 karat gold! Roll The Bones, Rush's 14th studio album, released in 1991, is a fantastic blend of tempos, ideas, and musical explorations. The album marks further transition from the band's 1980s style to their sound in the 1990s - it still has Rush's dark mystique but it is a more pop-oriented album. There are four popular radio staples, "Bravado", "Ghost Of A Chance", "Roll the Bones" and "Dreamline" with the former reaching #1 on the US Mainstream Rock chart, while "Where's My Thing" was Grammy nominated for Best Rock Instrumental. The band reunited with producer Rupert Hine for his second Rush album and "Roll the Bones" became their first US Top 5 album since 1981 peaking at #3 on the Billboard Top 200. The album also won the Canadian band that country's 1992 Juno Award for best album cover design.

Generally acclaimed as the strongest album of his comeback, and by some as his best since Trout Mask Replica, Doc at the Radar Station had a tough, lean sound owing partly to the virtuosic new version of the Magic Band (featuring future Pixies sideman Eric Drew Feldman, New York downtown-scene guitarist Gary Lucas, and a returning John "Drumbo" French, among others) and partly to the clear, stripped-down production, which augmented the Captain's basic dual-guitar interplay and jumpy rhythms with extra percussion instruments and touches of Shiny Beast's synths and trombones...

Karthago was a German band playin' in 70' heavy/eclectic prog with funk influences. Their most important member was organist Ingo Bischof who later joined jazz-rock band Kraan. Karthago were founded in Berlin by Joey Albrecht (originally from Hannover) and Gerald Luciano Hartwig. Since 1968 they had performed together in clubs as the duo Blues Machine. In 1970 they engaged the Bolivian percussionist Thomas Goldschmitt (mainly hand percussion) and soon landed a recording contract with BASF. Just a month before the recordings of their first album began, two additional members were added to their line-up: Ingo Bischof and Wolfgang Brock...

Live at Winterland '76 is a live album by the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) released in 1998. Recorded in 1976 during the band's Face the Music Tour, this album, along with 1974's The Night the Light Went On in Long Beach are two official releases of the band performing live. Electric Light Orchestra was at the top of their game when this concert was recorded. The band was right in the middle of a run of Top 10 hits that started in 1973 (with their second LP, ELO II), and continued throughout the rest of the '70s.

Sporting the cover of the CD/DVD set is a very strange looking Ian Anderson with a typically normally looking Martin Barre. Anderson looks like he is getting ready to do something perverted with his flute again. Glad to know 31 years on nothing much has changed in that respect. Live At Madison Square Garden (CD/DVD) is one of several live Jethro Tull DVD's that have become available over the last few years. I am glad that I didn't miss this one because it's a real gem. It contains a 93 minute concert recording in 5.1 DTS (96/24) surround sound (+Dolby Digital 5.1 & LPCM 2.0) and within all of that is 50 minutes of video footage from the groundbreaking (an often over used term in music but in this case true) of an international broadcast via satellite on October 9, 1978. The CD is a 78 minute edited stereo version of the concert. The only difference in tracks between the two is the "Bagpipe Intro" on the DVD and obviously the visual impact of a live Jethro Tull performance that is so strikingly brought to life again.
