Rock Fever RFM 011 | rel: 2001 | 390Mb

Hawkwind's fifth studio album found the band enjoying a rare oasis of stability after the multitudinous personnel shifts of the past five years. Only the recruitment of a second drummer, Alan Powell, disturbed the equanimity of the lineup that created the previous year's Hall of the Mountain Grill, although it would soon be time to change again. By the end of the year, bassist Lemmy had departed, vocalist Robert Calvert had rejoined, and the group's career-long relationship with United Artists would be over. In the meantime, Warrior on the Edge of Time ensured that it was brainstorming business as usual.

Harvest Moon continues the Votum tradition of giving melancholy atmospheres, some well-done prog metal sections, and (most importantly to them) soul-splitting lyrics. Yes, Votum has some of the best lyrics in the business. They really grab your heart by the neck and force you to feel something...

Jared says that this is more than an evolution, its a brand new beginning. Creatively, we have gone to an entirely new place, which is exciting, unexpected, and incredibly inspiring.

Originally released in 1976, the album finally has found an audience and has been reissued by Staubgold. Patrick Vian is the son of French jazz musician Boris Vian. He was also a member of the underground rock band Red Noise, who made one album that is quite well known among prog and psych collectors. Bruits Et Temps Analogues is actually quite an interesting album that has probably been taken for granted over the years. Vian has assembled a high caliber instrumental quartet that includes noted percussionist Mino Cinelu. Vian plays a variety of analog synths - Moogs and ARPs. George Granier is the second keyboardist and Ame Son's Bernard Lavialle plays guitar...

This is the second studio album from the Russian Psychedelic band Vespero. Once again recorded by Alisa Coral (Space Mirrors, Psi Corps) the emphasis is back to delivering heaping amounts of long, spacey sounding instrumental passages and multi-shifting tempos, which are executed at the drop of a hat and with razor like precision, thus each composition feels like it's in a perpetual state of change. The early psychedelic Pink Floyd and jazz tinged, Space Rock/ Kraut rock influences are still in abundance throughout, but the vocal chanting for example on a track like "Serata" adds a bit of a Zeul like feel as well.

Ornithos is one of the most pleasent and solid prog rock bands coming from Italy in last years. With members from another well known prog band from Italy Il Bacio Della Medusa, Ornithos manage to create a very enjoyble and full of memorable passages. La Trasfigurazione is a diverse record, more adventurous even with a looser sound which touches on jazz, heavy rock, prog, the occasional 60's psych flavour and mellower acoustic touches. It's an album more in favour of extended instrumental workouts than vocal led parts, effective though they are when present. You can imagine in a live setting these songs going on indefinitely as the band jam away...

Another obscure sub-underground krautrock band, discovered in the same pile of aging vinyl albums by the folks at the Psi-Fi label. Needles to say, the production on “From Ashes To Fire” is excellent. The artwork for the album was created by Anders Fästader at A Trailermade Production [H.E.A.T., Hardcore Superstar, The Poodles]. As for the music itself; is comes from Inner Wound Records SWEDEN with 13 catchy tracks containing a nice progressive twist!

Sombre Reptile is a Progressive rock band from Bordeaux, formed by the brothers Jean-Paul & Michel Dedieu in 1977. Some twenty five years would be required before they released their first album "In Strum Mental" (2001). Firstly influenced by King Crimson ("Red" period), Robert Fripp and Brian Eno, the trio developped there quite more personal views. The rhythm base was strongly "ethnic" sounding and proved to be as enchanting as original. Dialogues between keyboards and guitar came in foreground of these seven medium-length, very dense and inspired instrumental pieces...

Japanese avant-prog quartet Zletovsko give themselves -- and their listeners -- quite a workout on their eponymous debut disc, released in 2013 over a decade after the group was first formed in 2002. Bassist Shigekazu Kuwahara and keyboardist Isao Horikoshi were in the initial version of the band, an Emerson, Lake & Palmer-style prog trio, and a decision to re-form Zletovsko in 2009 brought guitarist Kei Fushimi on board along with the group's most famous member, whirlwind drummer Tatsuya Yoshida (Ruins)...

Jefferson Starship was among the most successful arena rock bands of the 1970s and early '80s, an even greater commercial entity than its predecessor, Jefferson Airplane, the band out of which it evolved. Many Jefferson Airplane fans decried the group's new, more mainstream musical direction, especially after Airplane singers Grace Slick and Marty Balin departed in 1978. But with shifting personnel, Jefferson Starship managed to please its new fans and some old ones over a period of a decade before it shifted gears into even more overtly pop territory and changed names again to become simply Starship.
