Excellent album, another step forward for IZZ. Impressive instrumentation, especially guitar and bass, without overdoing it. From beginning to end Room is tastefully executed, leaving ample white space, and never cluttering the songs. Throughout the album, the group effectively employs its impressive vocal talents (three of the six are credited with vocals). Annmarie Byrnes' high harmony vocals add drama and emotion to already-dramatic and emotional songs.

Touching on the musical territory of fellow travellers Hawkwind, Journey was a masterwork and is now rightly regarded as a classic. This newly remastered edition includes a bonus CD featuring 8 bonus tracks of rare single material, alternate mixes and three recordings from a BBC Radio One John Peel session from 1972. Journey joins a new re-mastered edition of Kingdom Come in the continuation of Esoteric's Arthur Brown re-mastered series.

The story of Schematic is one of progress, experimentation and rebirth. After a very successful decade fronting the beloved indie-powerhouse Mae (have sold over 500,000 records!!) as singer/songwriter, Dave Elkins packed his bags and relocated to Nashville for the start of something new. With four LP's, three EP's, and over half a million album sales under his belt worldwide, Elkins longed to refine his approach to making records, to experiment with the unknown. The result emerged under the moniker Schematic, and in the form of a brilliant and breathtakingly complex record, Color (n.) Inside The Lines. Landing on a particular sound for Schematic was, and remains to be, a journey that is constantly evolving.

Despite some future weak LP’s or mainstream/cashing machine approximations, there’s no way to ignore the fact that Brian Auger is a master groover and one of the first to have successfully plunged in Fusion (taken in its wider meaning) waters; on the other hand Julie Driscoll appears as having always functioned as a creative/inspirational muse for our man, in that all their collaborations bore tasteful fruits; that said this album is in my opinion here to prove it!

Cardboard sleeve (mini LP) reissue from Matching Mole features 2013 remastering and the high-fidelity Blu-spec CD2 format (compatible with standard CD players). Includes bonus tracks. Maybe it's because Wyatt relinquished his firm upper hand on the songwriting (everybody in the band pens material) and production (Robert Fripp takes over), but this is a distinct comedown from Matching Mole's debut.

Rock | 4cd | EAC Rip | Flac + Cue + Log | covers

Progressive rock outfit Gypsy began its existence as the Minneapolis-based pop band the Underbeats, formed in 1964 by guitarist James Johnson, bassist Doni Larson, and drummer Tom Green. With the subsequent addition of singer/guitarist Enrico Rosenbaum, the group regularly performed throughout the Twin Cities circuit, scoring a handful of local hits including "Footstompin'," "Annie Do the Dog" and "Book of Love." Keyboardist James "Owl" Walsh was recruited after Johnson was drafted for military service in 1969; upon his discharge, Johnson returned to the Underbeats lineup, and the quintet relocated to Los Angeles soon after, where they landed a gig as the house band at the famed Whiskey-a-Go-Go. Rechristened Gypsy, they began pursuing a heavier, more complex sound inspired by the rise of British progressive rock, though often compared to the music of Santana.
