Arco Iris - Desde el Jardin (2012)
Rock | 1cd | EAC Rip | Flac + Cue + Log | covers
Viajero 441 1 | rel: 2012 | 365Mb

Arco Iris has delighted world audiences with its powerful and unique sound for more than 40 years. This new release, Desde el Jardin, takes the listener to a musical journey that blends the diverse and expressive styles of World music, Jazz and Argentine folklore. Powerful drums and eclectic percussion rhythms provide the backbone for a tapestry of chords and arpeggios played on acoustic and electric guitars and basses. Layers of panpipes, South American woodwinds, flutes and saxes build beautiful melodies in arrangements never done before by the band. Meticulously engineered and mixed by Ara Tokatlian and Ariel Gato, each voice and sound has it's own ambience and placement in the stereo field, further enhancing the soulful performances captured in this elegant CD. ~Reverbnation

"Under" is the fifth studio album by French progressive rock band XII Alfonso. Fully instrumental, this opus includes many sounds, noises and voices. One may recognize the famous speech by reverend Martin Luther King, whom the band pays tribute. Musically speaking, the Camel influences from the beginning are now far away, in favour of a more personal approach. And that's with great pleasure that one welcomes the return of the lyrical guitar parts courtesy of Philippe Claerhout, both electric and acoustic.

Insurgentes is a film by Lasse Hoile about SW, a musical road movie that follows the making of his solo record of the same name, and is a portrait of an increasingly rare artist who works with music and media out of love and not for fame and fortune, persisting in making art on his own terms in a world where ‘throw away’ mentality is increasingly becoming the norm. The 2 disc set also features a host of extras including 6 exclusive bonus audio tracks from the album sessions, a 31 minute film of SW/Pig live in Mexico City, and the Harmony Korine video. Subtitled in Spanish, French, German and English. Sound mixed in stereo and 5.1 surround sound.

It will please every sophisticated or casual Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree, Djam Karet and Marillion fan. Paraphrasing Zappa, this is the best album of 2007 no one has heard about.

(2009), nominated by the ProgAwards that same year, "The Wish" (2011) marks a watershed for the group that sign here its first concept-album, inspired by Oscar Wilde's "Picture Of Dorian Gray". Neo Progressive and floydian influences from the early days, make way for a more personal identity, helped by the voice of Djam Zaidi (Transperception), the flamboyant guitars of Amirouche Ali Benali, the swirling keyboards of Philippe Benabes and Elise Bruckert's magical violin...

This 1996 CD compilation was the first one put out privately by the Zappa family following Frank Zappa's death in 1993 from prostate cancer. The music includes three new versions of familiar Zappa works, followed bytheir better-known counterparts that have previously appeared on both LPs and CDs. As Dweezil Zappa explains in his liner notes, this previously unreleased excerpt from "Black Napkins" is not yet fully formed; oddly enough, like the version that follows from Zoot Allures, the Napoleon Murphy Brock sax solo has been edited out. The new version of the next instrumental, "Zoot Allures," fares better in comparison to the well-known take from the Zoot Allures CD, in spite of some distortion inadvertently added by the Tokyo PA system during its recording.

Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) (1974) [2004 Japan VCJP-6857]
Art Rock | Lossless FLAC -> 340MB | EAC Log/Cue | 600dpi Covers | Uploaded/UpToBox

Continuing the twisted pop explorations of Here Come the Warm Jets, Eno's sophomore album, Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy), is more subdued and cerebral, and a bit darker when he does cut loose, but it's no less thrilling once the music reveals itself. It's a loose concept album -- often inscrutable, but still playful -- about espionage, the Chinese Communist revolution, and dream associations, with the more stream-of-consciousness lyrics beginning to resemble the sorts of random connections made in dream states. Eno's richly layered arrangements juxtapose very different treated sounds, yet they blend and flow together perfectly, hinting at the directions his work would soon take with the seamless sound paintings of Another Green World. Although not quite as enthusiastic as Here Come the Warm Jets, Taking Tiger Mountain is made accessible through Eno's mastery of pop song structure, a form he would soon transcend and largely discard.

Ragnarök belongs to the first period of Swedish Progressive rock movement. Recorded in 1975, its first self-titled album contains typical Seventies art-rock. Delicate and polished, this elegant music can be linked with the most etheral atmospheres displayed by King Crimson's first album, the "I Talk To The Wind" era. As most of its compatriots, the band also developped some Scandinavian folk influences. The band vanished in the Eighties, and its leader Peter Bryngelsson could be heard in various groups (Trianguius, Urban Turban) or as a solo artist. Ragnarök reformed in 1991 and published "Well", unnoticed at the time. So, one could assume that the real return of our Swedish musicians occured in the year 2008...

The eight compositions (running time between 2 and 10 minutes) on Azahar are more varied, elaborated and compelling. The guitarplay is sensitive featuring short but powerful soli and some exciting flamenco guitarwork. The Spanish vocals has a typical Spanish undertone, very warm and expressive. The keyboards sound lush and have a pleasant variety: strings, organ, synthesizers, clavinet and acoustic - and electric piano. The rhythm-section plays dynamic, Spanish people have a natural feeling for rhythm! This CD is a very fine example of the unique Spanish progrock: harmonic, melodic and tasteful compositions without self-indulgence.

It is quite relevant to notice how many new Russian Progressive rock bands that share similarities with Emerson, Lake & Palmer are arising. In fact, in cases such as Little Tragedies, Edward Artemiev or Horizont, it would be more accurate to evoke XIXth and XXth century classical music, for Slavic culture reasons. Aviva perfectly illustrates this phenomenon. It is in fact Russian virtuoso pianist and multi-instrumentalist Dmitri A. Loukianenko's project. With the help of a guitarist and a few guests, our man presents "Rokus Tonalis" on the Musea label...

The legendary, cult favorite, Swedish prog band Änglagård had gone into hibernation after two incredible albums. Most of us thought never to return. Even the two albums, "Hybris" and "Epilog" were out of print. The rarity of the recordings only added to the band's mystique. In 2002 they decided to test the waters and try rehearsing together, only with Tord Lindman choosing to bow out. This resulted in some live performances and new hope from the fans. It was however short lived as Jonas, Anna, Thomas, Johan and Mattias retreated back to their separate lives. Then in 2009 "Hybris" was rereleased, followed by "Epilog" in 2010...

One of Frank Zappa's most commercially successful albums, APOSTROPHE is also among his goofiest. The album found its way to the semi-mainstream chiefly on the strength of "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow." As the title of that single indicates, the scatological humor and cheap jokes that are part of Zappa's stock in trade abound here (see also the self-explanatory "Stink-Foot"). Part of Zappa's genius, though, much like that of Gong's Daevid Allen, was to deflate his sophisticated instrumental excursions and conceptual work with lowbrow humor and downright silliness. Nowhere is that process more apparent than on APOSTROPHE.
